Mike: There is nothing wrong with being a little extra

11/29/2018

My name is Mike, I'm 24 and I live in Basel, Switzerland where I was born and raised. I'm in my second year of the Business Textile Management degree. I also work as a Backup Floor Manager in a clothing store where I have to do a lot of customer service which requires a good taste in fashion.

I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and love to travel to new cities and discover new places. I've also found myself getting into photography lately.

I'm 1.78 m tall and mostly wear size S or M depending on how I want a certain piece to look like. My daily choice of clothes often gets influenced by my mood.

I love mixing styles that usually don't belong together. Like a blazer with a hoodie or a nice shirt with a cool jeans jacket.

The story of my style

I have been into fashion since I was a teenager so I spent most of my time scrolling through fashion magazines or websites checking for the latest trends and inspirations.

Over the years I tried out a lot of different styles trying to find my own way of dressing. It was the time when I stopped thinking about what people think when I really started to discover my own style. I have always been inspired by a lot of people who added a little bit of their personality in their outfit. This is also what I find the most interesting about fashion and what I am trying to do in my style. The moment when I recognized how diverse fashion can be and what an impact clothes have on people, I knew that I want to dedicate myself to it and work in this industry.

I would always choose being overdressed over being underdressed. I just think there is nothing wrong with being a little extra.

Clothes truly make the man. I know it sounds a little cliché but there is a truth behind that sentence. Clothes are not just influencing the way people are looking at us but also the way we are looking at ourselves.

My favorite wardrobe items are my jeans jacket that I bought on a local market in the middle of Amsterdam or any vintage jacket from my parent's old closet in our cellar. I am obsessed with jackets🤷🏽‍♂️

I think every closet needs a good trench coat and a pair of white sneakers. At least in my opinion. Besides that I love a good accessory especially rings and I hate wearing shirts buttoned up to the top.

10 wardrobe pieces that characterize my style:

  • Trench coat
  • White sneakers
  • Rings
  • My grandfather's gold chain with my grandmother's pendant
  • Daniel Wellington watch with a black leather band
  • Big scarves
  • Long coats
  • Striped white shirt from Zara
  • Black backpack
  • Leather boots for the winter
